    Mallory Chipman remembers hearing Leonard Cohen\u2019s music as a child. \u201cI was drawn to the high female backup vocals that were so gorgeous and ethereal,\u201d says the Edmonton jazz singer, composer and arranger. \u201cAs I got older, I started digging into the lyrics and found that there are few artists that are so poetic, and I was really in love with that side of him. Just amazing metaphor and figurative language that he would use to create such a vivid image with his music.\u201d It was inevitable that she combine her kind of jazz with Cohen\u2019s genius. The result is the album\u00a0Rags and Feathers: A Tribute To Leonard Cohen<\/em>\u2026<\/p>\n

    \u201cI really do believe it has the power to connect with a lot of people, so I\u2019m really excited about taking it on the road,\u201d says Chipman\u2026 Undertaking Cohen, Chipman was careful to balance the songs that would sound best by her musicians with her desire to represent a cross-section of his music.\u00a0\u201cThe music did change and the lyrics did change but the quality didn\u2019t. He may have had different influences that appear during different parts of his career but it\u2019s all so beautiful and all so sensitive and thoughtful.\u201d Songs on the album include \u201cAin\u2019t No Cure For Love\u201d, \u201cOn the Level\u201d from Cohen\u2019s last album\u00a0You Want It Darker<\/em>, \u201cSuzanne\u201d and, of course, \u201cHalleluja\u201d.<\/p>\n
