He is in his 25th season as Artistic Director and Principal Conductor of the Edmonton Winds. He was the Director of the MacEwan University Jazz Ensemble for 37 seasons. For six seasons he served as the musical director of the River City Big Band. Raymond remains a much sought after national clinician and adjudicator as well as a featured guest speaker at music education conferences across the country.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Raymond continues to work as one of Edmonton\u2019s busiest saxophonists and is in demand as a woodwind specialist for pit orchestras in local and touring productions. He was a regular member of the Tommy Banks Big Band for 25 years and has appeared with the Edmonton Symphony Orchestra on numerous occasions as an orchestra member and soloist, and as a guest conductor.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Raymond holds a graduate degree in conducting from Northwestern University, undergraduate degrees in both performance and education from the University of Alberta. In 2018 Raymond was inducted in the Edmonton\u2019s Cultural Hall of Fame. In 2016 he was recognized with a Distinguished Teaching Award from MacEwan University. In the past, he has been the recipient of many awards for his contribution to music and music education from the Alberta Foundation for the Arts, the Alberta Band Association, Edmonton Public Schools District Service Award and from Alberta Learning.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-right\">\u2014<strong>Raymond Baril<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>P.J. Perry has shared the stage with countless jazz greats such as Dizzy Gillespie, Woody Shaw, Michel LeGrand, Pepper Adams, Kenny Wheeler, Tom Harrell, Rob McConnell, Slide Hampton, Herb Spanier, Bobby Shew, Fraser McPherson, Tommy Banks, Joe LaBarbera, Clarence \u201cBig\u201d Miller, Red Rodney and many more talented artists too numerous to list here. Recently, he was a featured soloist on the hit 2010 Broadway production of Come Fly Away, highlighting the songs of Frank Sinatra.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In 1996, P.J. received an Honorary Diploma in Music from Grant MacEwan Community College. In 2005, he was given a Lifetime Achievement award by the City of Edmonton. In 2007, P.J. was awarded an Honorary Doctorate of Laws from the University of Alberta and in 2016, he was inducted as a member of the Order of Canada.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>P.J. has become recognized by critics, colleagues and listeners as being one of North America\u2019s premier saxophonists. In 1993, his recording \u201cMy Ideal\u201d received a Juno Award for Best Jazz Album and in 2000,&nbsp; his Justin Time recording with the Edmonton Symphony Orchestra received a nomination for Traditional Jazz Album. P.J. received Jazz Report magazine\u2019s Critic\u2019s Choice Award for Best Alto Sax for a record seven years, from 1993 to 1999.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>P.J. has performed as a soloist with the Edmonton Symphony, Vancouver Symphony, Winnipeg Symphony, Saskatoon Symphony, Kamloops Symphony, Hamilton Philharmonic, Montreal Symphony, Kitchener-Waterloo, and the Vancouver Island Symphony, and has recently been performing his own show \u201cThe Joy of Sax\u201d with orchestras across the country.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-right\">\u2014<strong>P.J.
